The automatic, or self-winding, movement is a marvel of practical ingenuity. A semicircular rotor, often exquisitely finished, swings freely with the motion of the wearer's arm, transferring that kinetic energy to wind the mainspring. It is a watch that lives with you, powered by the very rhythm of your life. To behold a movement through a sapphire crystal case back is to gaze into a microcosm of order and beauty.

Here, the watchmaker’s art is laid bare: bridges and plates adorned with Côtes de Genève, perlage, and bevelled edges; screws with polished, heat-blued heads; wheels gilded to resist oxidation; and the balance wheel, the watch’s beating heart, oscillating with a hypnotic, steady cadence, often 28,800 times per hour. This is not industrial manufacturing; it is haute horlogerie.
